Villar Records was established in 1950 by the late Manuel P. Villar Sr., recording Philippine folk songs, kundimans, balitaw and other love songs from different regions. Mr. Villar has earned the title as the Father of Philippine recording for his pioneering work in recording original Pilipino music (OPM). Mr. Villar was also the first president of the Philippine Recording Industry Association (PRIA). Villar Records carried the ethnic sounds of the Ilocos, Cebu, Iloilo, Cordillera, Tausug and Maranao tribes. Villar Records was the first to wax a record of the Philippine National Anthem.
Today, Villar Records International distributes their collection of recordings throughout the world from their distribution centers in Manila, Philippines and Los Angeles, California U.S.A. |
